BUTTERFLY EXPLOSION BEDROOM
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
Built-In Elements
Upgrading our toddler's room from baby-like to big girl was a delightful transformation. Embracing her love for butterflies, we built IKEA drawers into a wall bench and dresser storage, topped with a custom-stained white-washed wood. This expansive drawer storage is perfect for her folded clothes. Built-in cubbies on each side of the dressers store treasures, books, and trinkets while allowing easy access to plugs.
Furniture
The room features a full bed frame set against a stunning mural wall. We created a cozy reading area with her former crib mobile hanging alongside photos, and a small table and chair for coloring or playing with stuffed animals hanging in a boho hammock above. Nightstands are perfectly scaled for the space and hold cherished family photos. A bookshelf/gallery wall displays meaningful trinkets, blending function and fun.
Decor
We painted one wall and the ceiling a rich, warm pink, adding a major mural upgrade on the bed wall. To save money versus expensive wallpaper, we placed metal butterfly outline wall art and painted colorful shapes behind them, filling the negative space with dashed paint marks. The decor is playful and functional, with ceiling-mounted plants creating a whimsical listening area for her Toniebox.
Color Scheme
The color scheme, dictated by the pre-existing rug and curtains, is nostalgic, mimicking her original nursery colors. The warm pink walls and butterfly-themed mural bring a lively and charming atmosphere to the room, perfectly blending past and present.
CONCLUSION:
This butterfly-themed big girl room makeover beautifully transitions from baby to toddler, embracing her love for butterflies with creative and functional design. With built-in storage, whimsical decor, and a nostalgic color scheme, this room is both practical and enchanting. Ready to transform your home? Contact Emily Does DIY for bespoke design services.
