MODERN BUNGALOW LIVING UPGRADE
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
Color Scheme
The living room was the first major space we decided to renovate after purchasing our 1950 bungalow. We refinished the dated orange oak floors to a deep, neutral brown to modernize the space. Then, we lightened the grey paint color on the walls to brighten the room and make it feel more open and inviting.
Built-In Elements
We demoed the old built-in bookshelf, revamping it with new wood-stained shelving and a dramatic black back wall paint to pop against the light walls. We added base and crown molding throughout the room for a more polished look. The old fireplace surround was removed and replaced with a stunning white stone that extends to the ceiling, creating a striking focal point. We also added a modern wood mantel stained to match the floors.
Furniture
We selected a Natuzzi leather sofa in a soft grey, custom marble nesting tables for the coffee table, and lots of softness through airy curtains, greenery, and throw pillows. Behind the sectional, we created a cozy music-listening zone with a credenza, accent chair, and artwork alongside a record player. This area also features artwork vignettes with sconce lighting above and a gallery wall showcasing family photos in a classy black and white grid.
Decor
The finishing touch was a vintage grey, black, and white rug to ground the space and create some differentiation from the rest of the room. This cohesive decor plan, along with thoughtful design choices, turned our living room into a stylish, welcoming space that blends modern updates with classic charm.
CONCLUSION:
This living room renovation showcases how a dated space can be turned into a stylish and inviting area. With refinished floors, a stunning white stone fireplace, modern furnishings, and thoughtful decor, this living room blends modern updates with classic charm. Ready to transform your home?
